The Legal Aid Service under the Ministry of Justice of the Kyrgyz Republic annually organizes the “Solidarity Bus” campaign, in the framework of which lawyers and employees of other state bodies with extensive experience provide free and consultative legal assistance to socially vulnerable groups of the population.
Training participants will gain the following skills and knowledge:
- Gender sensitivity: They learn to integrate gender perspectives into their work and understand how to approach survivors of gender-based and family violence.
- Providing gender-sensitive services: Participants will learn techniques for providing specialized support and counselling to survivors of violence.
- Professional development: Participants will be trained on current norms and methods of legal aid in cases of gender-based and family violence.
The training will help participants to be more effective and gender-sensitive in assisting survivors of violence and improve the quality of legal counseling support for the Solidarity Bus campaign.
On the joint EU-UN Spotlight Initiative: In January 2020, in partnership with the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, the EU and the UN launched a multi-year country program under the global Spotlight Initiative to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls. The goal of the program is to create an environment in which all women and girls in Kyrgyzstan, especially the most vulnerable, live free from violence and harmful practices, including child marriage and ala kachuu. The program includes a set of integrated interventions in the areas of policy and legislation, institutional strengthening, violence prevention, services for survivors, quality data collection, and support to the women’s movement and civil society. The program is implemented by five UN agencies (UN Women, UNFPA, UNDP, UNICEF and UNODC) under the overall leadership of the UN Resident Coordinator in the Kyrgyz Republic.
