“Increasing Citizens’ Knowledge of Obtaining Legal Information” with technical support from the East West Management Institute Co-Management Program, funded by USAID and the British DFID

Goal:

Assist in increasing public confidence in the judicial system by raising awareness among students of universities, colleges and universities.

Main areas of activity:

With the assistance of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, guest lectures were held in 46 higher and secondary educational institutions throughout the country on four topics:

  • On the activities of the Free Legal Aid Centers (FLAC); 
  • About the Interactive Online Map of Legal Service Providers; 
  • About Web portal of court decisions sot.kg;
  • On the legal and regulatory framework for protection and defense against domestic violence.  

Expected results and accomplishments: 

The lectures were interactive with presentations and videos. Students learned about the Free Legal Aid Centers (FLAC), about the interactive map of legal service providers www.legalmap.gov.kg on the website http://minjust.gov.kg of the Ministry of Justice of the Kyrgyz Republic, about the judicial system and the online resource www.sot.kg of the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic, where court acts, schedules and other additional information about the work of the courts are currently posted, as well as about the updated legislation on protection and protection from family violence. After the lectures, students were given information booklets, brochures provided by the Co-operative Governance Program (CGP).
