Kyrgyz Association of Women Judges

For the first time in the history of independent Kyrgyzstan in 2015, the “Kyrgyz Association of Women Judges” (KAWJ) was established with the organizational and legal form – Public Association. In the Central Asian region, KAWJ is the only organiation consisting of women judges, retired ex-judges. It’s main mission is to preserve the independence  of the judicial system, increase it’s role in protecting the rights of citizens, and ensure equal and fair access to justice for all persons, especially vulnerable groups, in order to achieve justice and equality. 

The women judges who initiated the creation of such an organization considered it right that judges, as representatives of the judiciary, should contribute to ensuring that everyone has access to justice, especially vulnerable groups.

The establishment of the Association of Women Judges would promote the role of women judges in the administration of justice, develop their leadership skills, and contribute to the legal education of citizens through awareness-raising activities and information exchange.

The idea of creating such an organization was conceived back in 2014, when Constitutional Chamber judges Chinara Aidarbekova and Meergul Bobukeyeva, who participated in the 36th annual conference of the National Association of Women Judges of the United States (NAWJ) in October 2014, presented the experience of the National Association of Women Judges of the United States and the International Association of Women Judges to their colleagues.
