“Monitoring of the implementation of laws on the prevention of early marriage” within the framework of the UNICEF project

Implementation timeline:

August 3, 2020 to March 31, 2021

Goal:

Monitoring the application of Article 178 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic by conducting in-depth monitoring and analyzing at least 20 court cases to identify reasons for dismissal of cases and reasons for underage marriages in these specific cases. Writing life stories based on court cases to be combined into one advocacy piece.

Expected results and accomplishments: 

  • Preparation of monitoring methodology;
  • Collection of cases, initial processing and analysis of collected information;
  • Prepare an enforcement monitoring report with findings and recommendations and develop a brochure with real cases for the advocacy campaign.

Older UNDP “Strengthening Accountability in the Implementation of the Rule of Law in the Kyrgyz Republic”, Phase II A study of prosecutorial practices (supervision and prosecution) related to violence against women and GBV and reasons for low conviction rates in GBV cases, including early marriage and domestic violence, with detailed recommendations to address the gaps in the current situation of handling cases of GBV victims was implemented by the “Kyrgyz Association of Women Judges” NGO for 5 months from October 8, 2019 to March 8, 2020.
